Teachers' Training Programme

In line with Ministry of Education (MOE) syllabus, Art Outreach is responding to requests by art teachers to offer art appreciation training for teachers.

Our new Teacher's Training Programme is designed to give teachers the skills and materials to lead the in-class art appreciation component for their own students.

Ministry of Education Art Syllabus specifically recommends an art appreciation component for primary and secondary school levels. From lower primary level to upper secondary level, the art appreciation component ranges from empowering children with an art vocabulary, to being able to make informed criticisms about art, and extending the meaning of art to the wider context of life and culture.

Art Outreach programme does exactly this. As such it directly underscores these MOE objectives, and we now offer school teachers the training to carry out this experience in their own classroom. The programme includes Art Appreciation training and use of resources.

Art Appreciation Training

The training, in workshop format, is designed to cover a wide variety of art education topics, art movements, media and subjects. It will introduce further ideas in stimulating students to appreciating art, and guide teachers through the language and process of appreciating an artwork, looking at the basic elements and the social context behind each of the art pieces so as to come to a full understanding of it.

The workshop will discuss:
· Portfolio content
· Basic glossary and associated topics to extend discussion
· Developing a teaching style to let a child learn by creatively thinking about the
  subject, and
· Planning extension activities related to the portfolio lessons

Use of Resources

Following the workshops, schools will be able to use the Art Outreach portfolios in the school for a period of 2 weeks. The loan of portfolios will be based on a library system and is therefore subject to availability. Booking in advance is required. Extension of loan period is upon request, subject to prevailing rental rate.
