Art Outreach's dedicated team of Volunteers make it possible for art appreciation
education to be received in an ever-increasing number of Singapore schools. But
teaching is not all our volunteers do. AO volunteers contribute their time and
energy to the programme in many different ways.

Volunteer Teachers
Volunteer Teachers conduct in-classroom art appreciation sessions with students
at one of AO's participating Primary or Secondary schools. Volunteer Teachers
are not required to have a teaching or art background as AO provides comprehensive
training. Once matched with a school, Volunteer Teachers return to the same class
with a new portfolio of artwork 3 times each school term.
AO's volunteer teaching force is made up of individuals, Junior College/Polytechnic
Student Groups, as well as Parent Volunteer Groups.
Art Outreach recruits volunteers to conduct art appreciation lessons in schools
that have signed up for the programme. Volunteers are not required to have an
arts or teaching background.
Volunteers are provided with monthly training on Art Outreach's portfolio lessons.
In exchange for this training, volunteers are required to conduct at least one
45-60 minutes presentation in their assigned school 3 times each term.
Upon joining the programme, a Volunteer is matched with one class (or more if
they wish) which he or she must visit 3 times per term during the school year with a portfolio of artwork. In every case the presentations will be in-class and during school hours. There
are generally no more than 40 students per class, and the duration of each presentation
is between 45-60 minutes.
Being assigned to a regular class allows a Volunteer to get to know their group
of students over the course of the year. It is also gives the students a sense
of continuity and encourages fruitful learning.
